2017/2018 PL Season: Our 5 Unforgettable Moments

May 20, 2018 Leave a Comment

When the 2017/2018 season of the Premier League started back in August 2017, it seemed as if the season would never end.

Fast-forward 10 months later – to May 2018 and the season has come and gone.

Old records were obliterated and new ones replaced them. The projected two-way battle for the Premier League title between both Manchester clubs ended up being a one-horse race.

A whole lot of other things happened during the course of the season. Out of them all, here are five of our unforgettable moments:

  1. The moment Manchester City became centurions

Pep Guardiola’s side re-wrote the history of English football with the way they played football this season. They outplayed their opponents most of the time and outscored them for the most part of the season (they scored 106 goals).

Their unbeaten run and breaking Chelsea’s record of most points in a single season would have been good enough for any Premier League side. But Manchester City didn’t stop there.

With virtually the last kick of the last game of the season, Gabriel Jesus secured Man. City’s 100th point (the most in the history of top-flight football in England) of a historic season. From De Bruyne’s pass to Gabriel Jesus control of the ball to his lobbing the goalkeeper, it was the icing on what had been an amazing season.

  1. Liverpool 4 – Manchester City 3

Before this game, Manchester City was on an amazing unbeaten run. The first half of the season had already elapsed and the Shark Team still remained unbeaten.

But the Reds had other plans.

By the end of the 90 minutes, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Saido Mane had all scored for Liverpool and became the first side to defeat Man. City in the league the campaign.

Which of those 3 players do you think will score for their respective countries in the first round of games at the World Cup?

  1. #MerciArsene

After 22 years of managing the Gunners, Arsene Wenger, during the season, announced that he will be stepping down as manager of Arsenal. The reaction from the football world was overwhelming with the French man being celebrated with guards of honor and even a trophy from Manchester United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson.

  1. Arsenal 4 – Leicester 3

The season started in strange fashion with the first game of the season played on a Friday. As if that was not strange enough, the first game of the season was the thriller between the Gunners and the Foxes, a game that featured 7 goals, including two late goals by Ramsey and Olivier Giroud to turn the game around in Arsenal’s favor.

  1. David de Gea against Arsenal

This game is famous for one man keeping out almost everything Arsenal threw at him. David De Gea pulled off 14 heroic saves in the game at the Emirates. Do you remember this game?
