The first international break in the 2018 football season is upon us. For the next few days, the ones between now and the weekend to come in a fortnight, it will be all about international football.
In other parts of the world, there will be friendly games. In Europe, it will be all about the UEFA Nations League while in Africa, it will be all about the race to qualify for the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will take place next year.
Last year, 48 teams were drawn into 12 different groups. Same year, the first game in all the groups were played, with nations like Ghana, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and Senegal all starting their campaign with a win. The same cannot be said for other countries like Nigeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Egypt who started their campaign with a loss.
But that was just one of the six games that will be played over a period of time. This weekend will feature games from Round 2 of the qualifiers.
One of the games to look out for is South Africa vs. Libya. Grouped together with Nigeria in Group E, both teams won their first game; Libya with a 5-1 win over Seychelles and South Africa with a 2-0 win over Nigeria. It’s now a battle for which team will tighten its grip on first place in the group.

Another game to look out for will be played in Group H, between Guinea and Central Africa. Just like the aforementioned situation in Group E, both countries won their opening game of the campaign, with Guinea defeating Ivory Coast and Central Africa defeating Rwanda.

Ghana, Malawi, Cameroon, Burindi, Mali, Algeria, Benin Zimbabwe are just some of the teams that registered comfortable wins in the first round of games. The Ghanaians are one of the few teams that have still kept a clean sheet in this competition and also won both halves of their game.
While the Black Stars will be looking for their second win, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be travelling to Seychelles to try and win their first three points of the campaign.
