It’s been a while AC Milan and the word ‘unbeaten’ have appeared in the same context. That word is attributed more to the likes of Juventus, a side on the way to yet another Serie A title, and others.
However, there’s been a resurgence in Milan.
To put things in perspective, they’re joint-top of the table in terms of form in the last five games. In that run, alongside AS Roma, they’ve not lost, dropping just two points. Their 16 goals scored during the period – an average of three per game – is the most any team has managed.
Not even Atalanta, with their prolific scoring form, have managed that much.
In the last 10 Serie A games, only Atalanta has a better record than AC Milan. Despite managing more points (26 as to Milan’s 23), they’ve scored three goals less than AC Milan’s 28 goals in 10. And the gap between both sides on this form table could shrink or widen after their Round 36 meeting.

Atalanta, in second place, are not too far from Juventus on the log table. They may not be winning this year’s Serie A title. However, they will want to finish above the likes of Inter Milan and Lazio, in second place.
To be able to do that, they need a win in all of their last three games, including the one against AC Milan. AC Milan, on the other hand, are neck-deep in the race to qualify for Europe. In the sixth, they are two points behind AS Roma in fifth and 10 behind fourth-placed Lazio.

AC Milan, under Stefano Pioli, have won seven of their last nine games since the league restart, each of which finished with over 2,5 goals. At home, the ‘Rossoneri’ have won all four of their league games since the restart, scoring 14 in the process.
Milan is not the only unbeaten side in the league.
Atalanta remain unbeaten since the league restart too. Unlike AC Milan however, and rather uncharacteristic of them, five of their last seven have produced under 2,5 goals. Atalanta have scored the first goal in each of their last four Serie A away games. And these goals were scored within the first 30 minutes.

A win for either side in this game will not see them win the league title. However, a win will go a long way in securing European football next season (for AC Milan) or cement a record season so far (for Atalanta).
