AFCON Round of 16

AFCON Round of 16

The AFCON Round of 16 has begun.

This is where the game gets really interesting. The group stage has come to an end, and at this point, every team has to be ready to walk away from the tournament if they lose.

So far, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Angola, Mauritania, Kenya, and Angola have been pulled out of the running.

And those who could stand the heat of the tournament will feature in the next round.

The question on most minds is: which team will be knocked out in this next round? Who will be pulled out of the running and who will stay?

Let’s take a look at some of the teams that will be participating in the round of 16;

  1. Mali vs. Ivory Coast

Mali finished the group stage at the top of Group E’s table. Out of the three games they have played, they won two and one ended in a draw.

So far, they have scored six goals and have only conceded two. They have had a promising start, and we can only hope it continues that way.

Ivory Coast, on the other hand, finished second on Group D ‘s table. They were only able to win two out of the three games they played.

The third ended in a loss. They have scored five goals and conceded only two.

Both teams have won two games which is quite commendable. How do you think this knockout stage will end?

  1. Egypt vs. South Africa

South Africa got to participate in the round of 16 through a narrow slide.

They won only one game out of the three games they played and lost the other two. This is the same story for Kenya.

The only difference is while South Africa scored one goal and conceded two, Kenya scored only three but conceded seven.

The goal difference gave South Africa the edge they needed to qualify to the knockout stage.

Egypt, which is the host nation, won all three games they played. They scored a total of five goals and have conceded none.

This game might be a tough one for South Africa. If they want to win this match, they have to play a better game than the ones they have been playing.

Egypt has not lost any game in the tournament this season.
