Alexis Sanchez to Man. Utd: The Winners and the Losers

January 20, 2018 Leave a Comment

Talk about the transfer that has taken up all the front space of all media channels. Since the winter transfer window opened for business, Alexis Sanchez has, arguably, been the most talked about name – Antonio Conte should appear somewhere on that list too.

The Arsenal man, who has six months left on his Arsenal contract, before now, had so many suitors who were interested in making him theirs. Along the line, they all fell by the way side and only one club has now turned out to be the sole contender for the Chilean’s signature: Manchester United.

It’s just a matter of days now before the deal – which will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way – will be concluded. As we anticipate when both players will be officially announced, we take a look at the winners and losers in this deal.

  1. Alexis Sanchez: Winner

Have you seen the reported wages this guy is set to earn when he becomes a Manchester United player?  It’s massive but it’s not even the main reason why we’ve chosen him as a winner in this deal.

The reason why Sanchez wins in this deal is simple: he’s moving on to a club where it is most certain that he will win a trophy, a major trophy. No, we’re not belittling the FA Cup. But with him in the ranks of the Red Devils, he will be helping them to compete on a number of fronts: the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.

No doubt he will add to his medals cabinet and that’s what makes him a winner in this deal.

  1. Arsenal: Losers

Yes, there’s the argument that getting Mkhitaryan for an Arsenal player who was going to leave for free in the summer is a great deal, hence they’re not completely losers in this deal.

But you take a look at the Arsenal setup, losing an energetic player like Sanchez is a huge loss for the Gunners. No player is irreplaceable, yes, but Arsenal will miss the fire Sanchez always brings with his performance on the pitch.

Arsenal will play Chelsea in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.

  1. Jose Mourinho: Winner

The Portuguese manager must be happy he’s finally getting a player he hopefully doesn’t have to criticize over the coming months. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was slammed several times by Mourinho and some have even come out to say that the Armenian has been frustrated by the Man. Utd’s gaffer.

Either ways, Jose will be more than happy to get rid of the “lazy player” and will be more than happy to welcome a certain Alexis Sanchez, a player notorious for giving everything on the field of play.

How about Arsene Wenger? Do you think he’s a winner or loser in this deal? What of Mkhitaryan? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
