Arsenal vs. Tottenham

Arsenal vs. Tottenham

This London derby has both sides competing, outside the top four, for one of the top four spots in the Premier League.

In seventh, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on an Arsenal side that has also lost two of its last five games. Both sides are in the same boat when it comes to league form. And it’d be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Asides Liverpool and Leicester, Arsenal have lost the highest number of home games in the Premier League this season. With five wins, they’ve also lost five games. With 14 goals conceded, only Chelsea and Manchester City have let in less. That may be a source of concern for Tottenham.

However, this Tottenham side could not be bothered.

While they know that the Gunners are on a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions (if that could be called a streak), they’re riding on a five-game winning run themselves. That’s a run that seen them score in every game and also managed a clean sheet in four of them.

Spurs have scored 15 goals in their last five games. That’s nothing short of confidence going into a London derby that is a must-win for both sides involved. If they win, they can continue their upward climb from the seventh position they’re currently in.

An Arsenal win is necessary too, especially for a side that is 10th on the log. With 10 goals scored in their last four games, the Gunners have what it takes to go all the way and win in this one too.

While derby games are largely unpredictable because of all attached to it, the scorer of the first goal can gain a huge advantage. And this is where things get interesting, statistically.

Tottenham have scored the first goal in all of their last five games. They have also won the first half of four of those five games. With Arsenal failing to keep a clean sheet in their last nine games in all competitions, this pendulum seems to be swinging the way of Jose Mourinho and co.

It seems the odds are stacked against Arsenal. However, the Gunners can bank on their home form against Tottenham in this one as they have not lost at home to Tottenham in the last seven editions of this derby played at the Emirates Stadium.
