The weekend is here!
After such a long time away, club football resumes this weekend. With all international breaks done for the year, fans of the game are gearing up for back-to-back action. From league action to UCL football and cup action, the next few weeks will be so much fun!
And it all starts this weekend. As we gear up to enjoy the football fest, here are some of the major games to be on the lookout for this weekend:
1. Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona
It’s third versus first in La Liga this weekend. It’s one of the biggest clashes in a Spanish football league season. And to an extent, it’s bigger this time around.
A quick glance at the table reveals how fierce the season has been so far. Just 4 points separates table-toppers, Barcelona and sixth-place Real Madrid. Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Alaves and Espanyol are sandwiched in-between.
Whichever team wins this game will get the opportunity to climb to the summit of the league. Diego Simeone’s side is unbeaten in their last 5 games in all competitions. With one draw and one loss in their last five, Barcelona is not in their usual strong form. But this weekend, Lionel Messi will try to take advantage of Atleti’s defensive crisis.
Atletico Madrid has conceded just 3 goals in their last 5 games.

2. Tottenham vs. Chelsea
This London derby has many sides to it. That said, it is a fixture that evokes a lot of memories. There was the 2-2 draw in 2016 where Eden Hazard’s 83rd minute goal denied Spurs a win. Then there was Tottenham’s 2-0 win in 2017. Dele Alli scored twice to end the Blues’ unbeaten run.
With Chelsea (28 points) in third and Tottenham (27 points) in fourth, this is one unmissable derby. Remember, the Blues are unbeaten. And Mauricio Pochettino will be more than happy to end Muarizio Sarri’s unbeaten start to life in the Premier League.

3. Copa Libertadores final
In football, there are derbies and there’s a derby. This weekend, one of the fiercest derbies in world football will play out in South America.
Long-time rivals, River Plate and Boca Juniors will face off in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final. The first leg which ended in a 2-2 draw puts River Plate in the front seat. But when it’s a derby, it’s pretty too close to call.
Can Boca Juniors finally defeat River Plate after four failed attempts in recent times?

I think Barça will win Atletic Madrid, for the London derby I see goals from both ends.
