Of all the top five European leagues, the German Bundesliga has to be the most ironic and dramatic.
Bayern Munich, the log leaders, should be out of sight by now. With 67 goals scored – just two shy of an average of three goals per game – they’ve scored 19 more goals than any other side (Borussia Dortmund) has managed. However, they’re only two points ahead of RB Leipzig.
What’s more ironic has to Bayern’s defense. Of all the top seven sides in the league, theirs is the joint-worst defense, letting in 32 goals. With one win, one draw and one loss in their last three games, they’ve been inconsistent.
And this is where their next opponents, Borussia Dortmund, will be looking to pounce.

Bayern Munich have won four of their last four games against Borrusia Dortmund. They’ve also scored the first goal in eight of the last 10 games against Dortmund.
The last time Dortmund managed a win over Bayern was in 2019, in the German Super Cup. With all these in mind, it’s fair to say that this one is an uphill task for Dortmund to tackle this weekend.
But they’re outside the top four. And with Champions League football a priority, Dortmund have to find a way to start picking points before the season is over.
For Bayern, scoring is not a problem. The main issue they’ve had this season is keeping opponents at bay. Conceding a goal in four of their last five league games, leaking goals has been a source of concern for the World Champions.
