It’s not the most popular trophy in European club football. But clubs and fans celebrate it when they claim the UEFA Super Cup. It counts very much as a major trophy and it usually spurs a team on for the new season.
This same trophy will be up for grabs when Bayern Munich square off against Sevilla later this week. The UEFA Champions League winners will face the UEFA Europa League winners in Budapest. With both teams employing almost the same tactics, this game will be keenly contested.
On one hand are the Germans. The Bavarians were ruthless on their way to yet another UCL trophy. After making light work of heavyweights like Barcelona and PSG, they kicked off their new German Bundesliga season by scoring eight unreplied goals.

If they are not the most feared team in Europe at the moment, then they’ll be very close to the top of the list. They have only lost one game this year. And it was a friendly game. During the run of games from January to date, they only drew once, winning the rest.
This is not the kind of opponent any side wants to face. But if any side is capable of standing up to the German champs, then it has to be Sevilla.
The Spanish side are yet to play a La Liga game this season. As such, match fitness may be a concern for them going into this one. However, having won their two friendly games, scoring five in the process, it seems they are ready to roll in Hungary.

Their recent record is also good enough to scare any side, even Flick’s German machines.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have not lost a game since February. Although theirs is a shorter unbeaten run than that of Bayern, they held their own, especially in a competition they have now won more times than any other side.
Both sides do not have much history between them. In their head-to-head record, they have only met twice. In those Champions League games, Bayern Munich won one and drew one. This game is an opportunity for Sevilla to even things up in their history against the Germans.
