Big Football Week in the Bundesliga. Which Team Are You Backing?

May 26, 2020 Leave a Comment

For a while now, football action has resumed in the German Bundesliga.

Two weeks to be precise. And the league has featured an avalanche of goals since it returned.

The first weekend saw only one game finish without a goal, with the remaining eight featuring at least two goals. The following weekend of resumption saw at least one goal scored in every game, with six of the nine featuring at least three goals.

For the first time since the league resumed, action will take place mid-week. And it’s going to feature, among other games, the world-famous Klassiker.

The German Clasico will see Borussia Dortmund play host to Bayern Munich in what is set to be a potential Bundesliga title decider.

It’s second versus first in the league, with both teams separated by just four points. While Bayern Munich have a superior goal difference, they will be wary of a slip up which could see their lead reduce. They also have to be wary of a Dortmund side that has scored six goals in their last two games without conceding.

Bayern Munich have scored seven goals in their last two games.

One-time table toppers, RB Leipzig, have been one of the most consistent sides in the league. Like Bayer Leverkusen, they haven’t lost in their last five games. After managing a draw in their first game after the break, they bounced back with an emphatic win over Mainz 05.

This week, they will take on a Hertha Berlin side that has not conceded a goal since they resumed.

A Timo Werner hattrick from the last weekend means that record may be on the line. However, it also suggests that this game may be a high scoring one.

All of the last six meetings between both sides has ended with over 2,5 goals.

Borussia Moenchengladbach, a point behind Bayer Leverkusen game, will be looking to bounce back from the home defeat when thy face Werder Bremen. The same will also apply to Freiburg and Schalke 04 when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt and Fortuna Dusseldorf respectively.

While it seems that Paderborn are condemned to relegation, the fight continues for Mainz 05 and Union Berlin. Both sides have won just once, each, in their last five games. To survive, they’ll have to ensure that they stop conceding so many goals, having let in nine in the last round of games.
