This weekend, the third round of FA Cup games will kick-off. The 2018/2019 edition of the tournament started as far back as November. Then, only the teams from the lower leagues played against each other.
This weekend, top teams from the Premier League will join the fray to win the FA Cup. Let’s take a look at some of these teams and the games they’re to play:
-
Tranmere vs. Tottenham
The League Two side enters the third round having already played two games. The goal will be to repeat their 2000/2001 feat when they eliminated two Premier League sides on their way to the quarter-finals. They can take advantage of Tottenham’s squad rotation when they welcome them.

Spurs have to be wary of the game stretching into a second leg. Tranmere forced a second leg in their last two FA Cup games.
2. Chelsea vs. Nottingham
The current holders start a defence of their title with a game against another FA Cup giant-killing side. Nottingham has twice eliminated Premier League sides from the FA Cup in the last five years. But odds are heavily stacked against the Championship side as they play away from home.
Four of Chelsea’s last five matches in all competitions have also produced under 2,5 goals.

3. Manchester United vs. Reading
The Red Devils will be looking to make it five wins from five. United have an existing 16-game unbeaten run in competitive games against Reading (W12 D4). Their 13 goals scored in the last four games is already a fear factor for any of their oppositions, including second-from-bottom-in-the-Championship Reading.

4. Wolves vs. Liverpool
This is the only game in which two Premier League sides will clash. The recent Premier League meeting between both sides is well documented. Moreover, the last meeting between both sides in the FA Cup, which occurred two years ago, ended in a 2-1 defeat for Liverpool. It was only the second win for Wolves over the Reds in 10 of their last meetings.
5. Blackpool vs. Arsenal
Blackpool, just like Tranmere, has played three games already, forcing a second leg encounter in their tie against Solihull Moors. In two of those three games, they scored three goals against their opponents. Arsenal is a different opposition and it remains to be seen how they will fare.
Will this fourth game also feature four goals?
