PL Review Can Liverpool Finally Win Their First-ever PL Title003 (1)

Liverpool increased their lead at the top of the table after defeating Manchester City last weekend. After 12 games, the Reds have now remained unbeaten in the league. They are replicating the kind of form Manchester City needed to win the league in the 2017/2018 season.

However beautiful their journey sounds, the journey ahead is still as tricky as can be.

As European champions, Liverpool have more-than-enough competitions to attend to, so much so that it may get hectic. As they prepare for the FIFA World Club Cup in December, there’s the EFL Cup also. Because of their commitment as European champions, some of their league games will have to be postponed.

The Reds will go on to start the New Year with games in hand and, possibly, their lead on the table reduced. Playing postponed games at later dates can lead to a hectic schedule for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Accumulated playing time without necessary rest can lead to key players getting injured.

So far, so good, the Reds have shown that they have what it takes to go all the way in the Premier League. But, they’re not the only side in the league.

Once the international break ends, there’ll be non-stop Premier League action until the year ends.

The Major Contenders

Reigning champions, Manchester City, have been seriously hampered by injuries. Yet, they’ve scored the most goals and created the most chances, with Kevin de Bruyne topping the charts with nine assists. They overturned a large deficit last season – against Liverpool – to win the league.

Despite being nine points behind Liverpool, it’s too early to write Manchester City off.

Liverpool and Manchester City started off as favorites to win the league title. However, two other teams have thrown their spanner in the works, staking their claim as title contenders also.

Sandwiched in between Liverpool – first on the table – and Manchester City – fourth on the table – are Leicester City and Chelsea. Aside Sheffield United that’s fifth on the table after gaining promotion last season, the Foxes and the Blues have been the season’s surprise package so far.

Up next for Chelsea in the league is a trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.

Brendan Rodgers’ men and Frank Lampard’s boys are tied on points, with Leicester City leading them with a superior goal difference. Although they are eight points behind Liverpool, making it thus far on the table means they are worthy to be mentioned in the Premier League title race discussion.

Before the season began, pundits predicted that the battle for the PL title would be a two-horse race. 12 games in, two other horses have joined the battle to be crowned England’s best. Can Liverpool survive their onslaught and win their first-ever Premier League title?
