Can Solskjaer Survive The Upcoming Run Of Matches?

October 14, 2021 Leave a Comment

Club Football returns this weekend and it brings a lot of importance with it.. especially for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Manchester United manager is in a precarious position and could be facing a make or mar situation. That’s because despite significant summer signings, Solskjaer has not delivered the expected results. United have not been convincing even when they win and patience is running out. With matches against Leicester, Atalanta, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City coming up, it’s unclear if Solskjaer will survive or lose his position as United manager.

SOLSKJAER’S UNCERTAINTY

Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s reign as Manchester United manager has been a series of ups and downs. One minute his team looks good, the next they’re not. Four semi-final losses in just 2 seasons did not help his cause either. The unexpected loss in the Europa League final was the last straw for most of his critics who have argued that he lacks what it takes to lead the club back to glory days.

Some hopes were renewed when United hammered Leeds 5-0 in their opening game of the season. This was followed by big name signings in Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo. Losses to Young Boys, West Ham and Aston Villa have since washed away any such hopes. United have not even looked comfortable in any game since the win over Leeds leading to more questions about Solskjaer’s tactical capabilities. While his supporters claim he still needs time to form a team with his new stars, critics point out Tuchel as an example. Tuchel managed to win the Champions League after only 8 months in charge of Chelsea.

BRUTAL RUN OF GAMES

The next 6 games will definitely test Manchester United’s pedigree as Title contenders or pretenders. The Red devils will face the best teams in the League and tricky ties against a good Atalanta side. If they can come out of these games with good results, it would go a long way to relieve some of the pressures on Solskjaer. In truth any team would be wary if they were to play the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham and Atalanta in quick succession. However, a team boasting of stars like Varane, Maguire, Pogba, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Sancho, Cavani, Rashford should be up to the task. Should they fail to navigate those fixtures however, it would take a lot of resolve for the United board NOT to sack Solksjaer.

Leicester present the first hurdle for Solskjaer and United as the League returns from the Int’l break this weekend. The Foxes have not been at their brilliant best lately but can present a real challenge for United. In fact, Leicester have won their last 2 matches against Solskjaer’s team. United will also be without Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane who have picked up injuries.
