3 Tips to Help You with Your Champions League Betting This Week

July 23, 2018 Leave a Comment

If you’re confused about the title of today’s blog post, don’t be.

We know the 2018/2019 Champions League season doesn’t start until September this year. But since the new rule allows for only 26 teams to automatically qualify, the remaining six slots have to be fought for by teams from all around Europe.

It’s the same qualifiers that have been on since the month of July began. This week, we will be witnessing another round of qualifying games.

Now that you know one of the sporting events to look forward to, here are some tips you can use to make money from Champagne Football this week:

  1. It’s the second qualifying round

The qualifiers started with the first qualifying round some two weeks back. 32 teams faced off against each other, competing in typical Champions League fashion, playing home and away fixtures.

That round produced 16 teams that have now progressed to the second qualifying round. Those 16 teams are:

  • Hapoel Be’er Sheva
  • Sheriff
  • Vidi
  • Celtic
  • HJK
  • Shkendija
  • Malmö FF
  • Legia Warszawa
  • Astana
  • Sūduva
  • Crvena Zvezda
  • Spartak Trnava
  • Kukësi
  • Ludogorets
  • Qarabağ
  • Rosenborg

They will be joined by eight other teams which are:

  • Ajax
  • Basel
  • BATE
  • CFR Cluj
  • Dinamo Zagreb
  • Midtjylland
  • PAOK
  • Sturm Graz

  1. Useful stats

Ludogorets (9 goals), Hapoel Be’er Sheva (7 goals), Celtic (6 goals) were the three highest goal-scoring sides from the first qualifying round.

6 of the 32 games played in the first qualifying round ended in draws. Of the remaining 26 games, 18 of them ended in wins for the home teams.

Eight teams, including Ajax, Celtic, and Dinamo Zagreb will play the first leg of their second qualifying round at home.

  1. Games to watch out for

A Champions League group stage ticket is at stake. And that’s the major reason why all the games that will be played should be as exciting as any other Champions League game.

But with the kind of names involved in this round of qualifying games, there are some games that you should look out for which include:

  • PAOK vs. Basel: Both teams are just joining the qualification race. This means both teams have, until now, only been playing friendly games. To make things more interesting, both names are not strangers to the group stages of the Champions League so they will be looking to make a return to the league this season.

  • Ajax vs. Sturm Graz: Two teams that will start their campaign in this second round. One is a big name in the Netherlands, the other plays in Austria, a league which is popular for a lot of goals being scored.
  • Celtic vs. Rosenborg: The Scottish giants scored six goals in the first two legs of their campaign while Rosenborg scored three. While Celtic won both legs of their first qualifying round games, Rosenborg lost their first game (away to Valur) before recovering at home.
The first leg of this game will be played in Scotland.
