The Cincinnati Masters is a hardcourt tennis event that is held every year in Ohio, USA.
This event is one which tennis stars use as preparatory event for the big one, the U.S Open – which starts next week.
This year’s edition of the tournament started Monday, with the finals set to be played this weekend in both the ATP and WTA categories.
The early stages of the tournament saw the exit of top-ranking tennis stars.
In the Men’s Singles, Alexander Zverev couldn’t make it past the round of 32, Grigor Dimitrov made his exit in the Round of 16 after losing to Novak Djokovic while Kevin Anderson and Nick Kyrgios bowed out in the quarter-finals after losing to David Goffin and Juan Martin del Potro.
In the Women’s Singles, Jelena Ostapenko failed to make it to the third round. It was the same with Garbine Muguruza. Caroline Wozniacki retired in the second round, and Serena Williams bowed out in the round of 32.
In the Men’s category, the semi-final pairings are as follows:
- Novak Djokovic vs. Marin Cilic
- David Goffin vs. Roger Federer
In the Women’s Singles category,
- Petra Kvitova vs. Kiki Bertens
- Simona Halep vs. Aryna Sabalenka
While all four of the male players that remain in the competition are all ranked in the top 15 of the ATP rankings, Simona Halep (1) and Petra Kvitova (8) are the only ranked players in the semi-final fixtures.
In the Men’s Singles,
There’s a reason why Novak Djokovic win has been priced at 1.45 to win this game against Cilic. The pair have faced off 16 times during their playing career. And Novak Djokovic has won 14 out of those meetings.
For Novak, the only time the only time he did not drop a set was in his 2-0 win over Johnson. The remaining three games after that saw him drop either his first or second set.

Roger Federer to win has been priced at 1.18 while a David Goffin win stands at 4.75. The odds are, understandably stacked against Goffin because of the history between both players.
In the past 7 meetings between both players, Roger has won 6 times. To make things worse for Goffin, Federer has only dropped one set in all his three games played so far.

In the Women’s Singles,
Kvitova and Bertens have only met three times, with Kvitova having more wins (2) than her counterpart. Kvitova’s strong point is: she has always found a way to win the first set in the three games she has played so far – including her win over Serena Williams.

The last – and only – time Simona Halep faced Sabalenka, it ended in defeat for the right-hand tennis player who hails from Belarus. But Sabalenka will be going into this one brimming with confidence after eliminating a heavyweight like Madison Keys.
