Top-flight league football in Germany is now on break.
The German Bundesliga finished on a high as Bayern Munich finished as winter champions of the league. Causing Bayer Leverkusen to suffer their first league loss of the season, the top four sides in the league have now lost just one game each.
But there’s still some end-of-the-year business to be taken care of for these clubs. And one of such businesses is the DFB Pokal.
Round 2 of the DFB Pokal – the German Cup – will be played in the penultimate week of the year.
And some of the top sides from the German Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga are still very much involved.
One of them is RB Leipzig. When they travel to take on Augsburg this week, they head into the game as favorites. Unbeaten in their last seven games, RB Leipzig have won five of those last seven match-ups. It’s a chance for the side, paired to face Liverpool in the recent Champions League draw, to finish the year on a high. This game is one of the all-Bundesliga affairs.

Another DFB Pokal game set to feature two Bundesliga sides is between VFB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg. The away side is currently on a five-game unbeaten run, keeping a clean sheet in two of those games. Stuttgart, on the other hand, have lost two of their last five games.
If you want to be on the DFB Pokal goals, this is one of the games to look out for. Five of the last six games Stuttgart have played have finished with at least three goals scored – two finishing in a six-goal thriller.

It has not been the best of times for Borussia Dortmund. Even with their new manager, they still lost their last game. That made it two wins and two draws from their last four games – with both teams scoring in all four games.
It’s the same story in their games against their DFB Pokal opponents, Eintracht Braunschweig. Although they have defeated them both times they’ve faced them, they’ve never managed to keep a clean sheet in both games.
Since 2018, Dynamo Dresden have failed to defeat their next DFB Pokal opponent, Darmstadt. That’s a run of three league meetings in Bundesliga, a run which has seen two losses and one draw.
