England have not won any trophy since winning the World Cup on home soil in 1966. That was 55 years ago. England have also never won the Euros. They have a chance to do so at Euro 2020 especially as the final will be played in England. However, their performance against Scotland on Friday showed they must improve to even make it to the final.

The three Lions have already sealed qualification for the next round having acquired 4 points from their first 2 matches. English fans and football critics at large were however not convinced with their performance. Despite beating Croatia, they were largely dominated almost throughout the match. Raheem Sterling’s goal was the result of a quick counter-attacking move. The 0-0 draw against Scotland further exposed their weaknesses as they were toothless in attack for 90 minutes.
NEXT POSSIBLE OPPONENTS
England were billed favourites to win their group and they are still on course to do that. All they have to do is beat the Czech Republic who are level on points with them. If England top their group, their Round of 16 match will be against the second-placed side from Group F. That could be any of France, Germany or Portugal. Finishing second means they will take on the team that also finishes second in Group E. That could be Spain, Poland, Slovakia or Sweden.

ENGLAND’S BEST XI
Coach Gareth Southgate has come under immense pressure for his team selection usage of the team. Southgate made the strange decision to take 4 right backs to the competition. He has also refused to play Jadon Sancho in any game so far despite the winger having a strong season. Sancho finished the season with 16 goals and 20 assists, the 3rd season in a row where he has racked up at least 20 assists. Southgate has also failed to get the best out of Harry Kane. Kane has looked a frustrated figure and was substituted before 90 minutes in both matches.
With attacking options all over the park, it will be difficult for any manager to pick his preferred XI. For us, we think England’s best XI should comprise of; Pickford, Shaw, Maguire, Stones, Walker; Philips, Grealish, Mount; Sterling, Kane, Sancho.
