On the European football calendar, the month of June is the month where all league tables are reset, teams are arranged on the table in an alphabetical order; a signal of the beginning of a new season.
July is the month in which most teams that failed to automatically qualify for European football begin to compete for places. Of course the competition in itself resumes full mode in the later stages of the year – more specifically in the last quarter of the year.
The race to qualify for this year’s Europa League has already begun with several clubs from different parts of Europe jostling for a spot.

Before the tournament proper begins…
There’s the little case of a play-off.
After the first three qualification rounds have been played, the teams that make it through will then enter what is called a play-off. This is the final, and understandably, a hugely contested round as teams try to cross the final hurdle before making it into the group stages of the competition.
