It’s that time of the year when points are being total towards league titles and streaks counted. Way past the half-way mark, most football leagues in Europe are now having fingers pointed at potential title winners.
It’s also the same for sides that have managed the best defenses in these various leagues. With the eyes of the world fixed on Europe’s top five, let’s take a look at the sides who have shut out their opponents the most this season:
Premier League
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been blowing all in sight away.
Their form has been so good, that it seems they’re on their way to winning the Premier League. A 10-point cushion at the top of the table, 15 wins in 2021 alone, it’s hard to see any other side in the league challenging them for the title.

This stability has been largely ensured by their solid defense, which has managed to keep15 clean sheets in 25 league games played this season. It’s the most any side has managed in Europe’s top five leagues.
La Liga
In Spain, the battle of the defenders has been less straightforward. When you consider that three teams – Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla – have managed clean sheets in the double digits, then you understand the picture of this season better.
Both Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have let in just 16 goals this season – less than one per game. Real Madrid is the other side whose number of goals conceded is still under 20.
Serie A
Inter Milan are top of the Italian Serie A again.
While their fans hope they can hang on till the end of the season, they will also be hoping their number of clean sheets increases. Antonio Conte’s men have managed eight clean sheets this season. It’s the same amount the likes of AC Milan and Napoli have managed this season so far.
But the goals have made all the difference for the Nerrazzuri, who have conceded five more goals than Juventus this campaign.

Bundesliga
Another Bundesliga title is going Bayern Munich’s way, even though they lost their last game against Eintracht Frankfurt. However, theirs is not the best defense in the league this season.
That honor goes to RB Leipzig who have managed 11 clean sheets this season so far. Then Wolfsburg comes in second place, with 10 clean sheets, in 22 games. It’s no wonder that Julian Nagelsmann’s men are just two points off the summit of the table.
Ligue 1
PSG may have managed 15 clean sheets in the league. However, they’re four points of the top of the table. The Parisiens are behind a Lille side that, although they’ve scored less than PSG, they’ve managed to keep 14 clean sheets. Then there’s the Bordeaux side that has kept a clean sheet in 12.
These are some of the best defenses in Europe at the moment. Which of them will you be backing to win this weekend? Drop your comments below.
