Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are chasing an unprecedented quadruple, a feat never achieved in English football. City are 11 points clear in the Premier League, in the Carabao Cup Final & are in the semi-final of the Champions League and the FA Cup. The Citizens are in red hot form having won 18 of their last 20 matches in all competitions. Their most recent blip was a surprise 2-1 loss at home to 10 man Leeds United.
Chelsea present their next challenge and will believe they have the potential to derail City. Ever since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January, Chelsea have been transformed. They have become incredibly difficult to beat and have kept a lot of clean sheets. In fact, Chelsea have suffered just 2 defeats in 18 matches under the German. Their 5-2 loss at home to West Brom is however an indication that no team is unbeatable in the PL this season.
The Blues are still in the hunt for a top 4 Premier League finish & a Champions League Title is also in their sight. FA Cup glory will be welcomed though and will indicate sign of progress for a club that last won a trophy in 2019.
With both sides having played huge European games in midweek, they’ll be looking to shake off fatigue and produce a tactical battle. The last time the 2 teams met in January, City recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Chelsea. Things have since changed and City will be expecting a much tougher fight from their opponents.
Chelsea have won the FA Cup 8 times while Manchester City have 6 FA Cup titles to their name. Both teams will be looking to add 1 to their tally.
