One of the most anticipated awards ceremony in world football is slated to take place this September. The Best FIFA award was created to replace a prestigious former FIFA football award.
The ceremony which will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London will see several players and mangers compete for the coveted awards in each categories.
Acclaimed actor Idris Elba is slated to once again host The Best FIFA Football Awards in 2018, having also co-hosted the ceremony previously in 2017 with Layla Anna-Lee.
The awards that will be up for grabs at the 2018 ceremony include The Best FIFA Men’s Player award, the Best FIFA Women’s Player, the Best FIFA Men’s Coach and the Best FIFA Women’s Coach. An Award will also be given to the Best FIFA Goalkeeper.
The FIFA Fifpro World 11 will be announced and, of course, the FIFA Puskás Award will be given to the player who scored the best goal during the past football year.
The most anticipated category has to be The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Juventus, formerly Real Madrid), Luka Modrić (Croatia/Real Madrid) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool) are the final three looking to win the award.

Luka Modric who has just been crowned the best football player in Europe will be going into this one as a favorite to win it after his exploits at the World Cup — he was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, winning the Golden Ball.
The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award will be keenly contested between Zlatko Dalić (Croatia/Croatia national team), Didier Deschamps (France/France national team) and Zinédine Zidane (France/formerly Real Madrid).
Thibaut Courtois (Belgium/Real Madrid, formerly Chelsea), Hugo Lloris (France/Tottenham Hotspur) and Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark/Leicester City) will battle it out for the Golakeeper of the Year award.
The winners of the prestigious awards are chosen through a unique voting system that divides up the vote several ways. 25 percent of the vote is determined by the public with the global sports media determining another quarter of the vote. The rest of the vote is split between national team captains and national team coaches.
Despite those three making the final shortlist of the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year category, a lot has been said about the omission of certain players, most importantly, Antoine Griezmann – a World Cup winner – and Lionel Messi, who won two trophies with Barcelona.
Some will argue that Mohamed Salah – who failed to win anything with Liverpool and Egypt – does not deserve to be in the final three. But the Egyptian helped his country qualify for a FIFA World Cup finals for the first time in over 2 decades. His goals helped Liverpool to the final of the UCL too.
Fair enough, right?
Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo’s UCL trophy and his goals at the World Cup also make him a strong contender to win the award. But which of these players will be winners at the end of the award night?
