FIFA Women's World Cup: Highlights

FIFA Women's World Cup: HighlightsFor a while now, we have anticipated the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

And finally, it’s here.

The competition started on the 7th and we are three days in. There has been a lot of buzz about this competition, which is not a surprise.

Our players arrived days ago, and games have begun in earnest – 24 countries are earnestly contesting for the world cup.

As the competition continues, here are some major highlights to take note of.

Games played

The Women’s world cup began on the 7th with a match between Korea and the host nation, France. The game ended in a 4-0 score line in favor of France.

On Saturday, we witnessed matches between Norway and Nigeria (Group A), Spain and South Africa (group B), and Germany and China (Group B).

On Sunday, matchups included: Australia and Italy (1-2), Brazil and Jamaica (3-0), England and Scotland (2-1).

The games have just started to take shape, and soon, we will know where each team stands.

Games yet to be played

A lot of games will be going down this week.

Still at the preliminary stages, every team in the competition will feature in their first game.

Teams have been grouped into five groups and by the end of the week, each team will have a rank on their group’s table.

Despite a large number of games to be played, here are some games you should look out for:

1. USA Vs Thailand

This game will be played on Tuesday.

At this point, we can’t say which team might have the upper hand. But USA team is ranked no 1 in the world.

They featured in this year’s She Believes Cup. In their last six games, they have won three times.

For Thailand, their last international match was in the 2015 World Cup, and even then, they failed to advance to the knockout stage.

They have a lot of catching up to do in the football court.

This will be both teams’ first appearance in the competition this year.

2. South Korea Vs Nigeria

This is another game to look out for.

Predicting the winner, however, will be quite tricky because both teams suffered defeats in their first game of the competition.

In their first match, Nigeria were not able to get a goal in while Norway finished with three goals in.

South Korea also couldn’t get a goal in and they conceded four goals from France.

Despite this, they seem to have a much better squad than Nigeria. But we can’t be so sure. Anyways, this game will prove if this is true or not.
