Serie B

Just like in some of Europe’s top leagues this season, the Serie B season has been quite eventful. A quick glance at the top of the table shows you how eventful the season has been.

The top two sides are separated by just one point. These top two sides – Salernitana and Empoli – are closely followed by Monza, Cittadella and SPAL, all on 26 points.

The league is yet to reach the half-way mark. However, the race to gain promotion to the Serie A has already begun. As the year runs to an end, there’s one final game for all the 20 sides in this league to play. Will it be three extra points for these sides or another loss?

For a side like Empoli, the goal will be to finish the year with only one loss which they’ve suffered earlier this season. Up against Ascoli, they face a side that has lost three of their last five games and is 19th on the log table. Empoli, currently on a 10-game unbeaten run, will be hoping to continue their fine home form against Ascoli – six wins out of seven.

The table toppers, Salernitana, travel to face Monza. Both sides have scored the same number of goals and Monza have conceded one less than their opponents. Another thing both sides have in common is that they have only lost one of their last five games each.

Monza have failed to defeat Salernitana in their last four attempts.

Lecce is another side to look out for in round 16 of games in the Serie B. They are the highest scoring sides in the league, squaring off against Cittadella, the side with the best defense in the league. Recent games involving Lecce have been notorious for goals:

  • Eight of their last 10 have seen both sides score
  • Eight of their last 10 have seen at least three goals scored
Each of the last four meetings between these two sides have seen at least two goals scored.

Pisa, in tenth, have played 15 games this season. And each game, on the average, has seen at least three goals scored. Having failed to score in just two of their last 10 games, they are one of the favorites to get on the score-sheet before the year runs out.

Up next for them is the game against Frosinone, a side that has not lost to Pisa in their last nine meetings. Another special thing about this encounter is the draws. Of the last 13 meetings between the two sides, seven have finished in a draw.
