When the Premier League resumes this weekend, it’ll be ushered in by a variety of games, top of which has to be the Merseyside derby.
Once done with their international duties, Everton and Liverpool players will kick things off with what is expected to be a feisty derby. No, theirs is not the most-anticipated derby in the league. However, no thanks to the recent form of both sides, fans can’t wait to see how this one will play out.
Everton (and Aston Villa) are on a winning start to the league season. With four wins in four, no other side comes close. Having scored 12 goals during the time, they’ve also been one of the most prolific sides in the league since the new season began. No PL side has scored more this campaign.

Having made light work of all their opponents so far, they will look to get the better of their town rivals.
For Liverpool, they are the current PL champions. But their 7-2 loss to Aston Villa seemed to take a bit of the shine off them. The result also seemed to expose a weakness that other teams will be looking to exploit this season. Last season, they conceded 33 goals in 38 games. They have conceded 11 already in the first four of the new season.
They come into this Merseyside derby seeking redemption; searching for a statement win that will boost their confidence again. And there’s no better opponent for them to do this against than a side they haven’t lost to in their last 20 games against them.

In their last 11 games against Everton, they have restricted the Toffees to just five goals. That’s one goal in two Merseyside derby games. It’s no wonder the Reds have priced at odds of 1.80 to win this game, despite Everton’s recent run of form.
This derby is a case of current form versus history. On one hand, Carlo Ancelotti’s side is the hottest team in the league. On the other hand, Jurgen Klopp’s side has mastered the art of making Everton the second-best side in town.

This Merseyside derby will feature two of the league’s top three strikers at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton has scored six goals in his opening four league games. Mohamed Salah of Liverpool has scored five goals. No doubt, both players will play a central role in the outcome of this game.
There are no trophies at stake. It’s no Champions League final. But it still remains what it is, a derby, as unpredictable as ever. Which of these two sides do you think will come out on top in this clash? Drop your comments and join the conversation.
