Just a few minutes before the end of the Chelsea vs. Manchester United, it looked as though Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season was coming to an early end.
That was until that late winner which caused mild drama on the touchline.
Of course the Blues were happy; better to gain one point than lose all three, especially when it’s against a direct rival.
Over the weekend, Liverpool and Manchester City also won their games.
A quick glance at the top of the Premier League table, Manchester City (the highest scoring side in the league so far with 26 goals) are top of the table. They are closely followed by Liverpool, also with 23 points. The Blues are in third, with 21 points.
It might as well just be that kind of season which will be determined by the number of goals scored. But can these three teams go the season unbeaten?

While it may be too early for such questions, it’s worthy of note that this is the first time three teams have remained unbeaten after nine matches of a Premier League season.
On only two other occasions have so many teams stayed undefeated so long in the top flight of English football. And on both previous occasions where teams stayed this long without tasting defeat, that season’s champions came from those sides, Liverpool claiming the title in 1978/79 and Arsenal in 1990/91.
Of the trio, only Liverpool has lost a game this season: their 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the EFL Cup. They’re the closest team, pundits say, that seem to be good enough to challenge Manchester City.
Chelsea, yet to lose a game this season, seem to have broken up the predicted two-horse race for this year’s PL title. Sarri Ball has been effective, especially going forward. With goals like the one Ross Barkley scored to salvage a point for the Blues, they’ll have renewed confidence going forward in the league.
The blue half of Manchester has continued from where they stopped. Their loss at home to Lyon in the UCL came as a surprise but domestically, they’ve been brilliant. Draws against Wolves and Liverpool are the only times where they’ve dropped a point this season.

Only 9 games (out of a 38-game season) have been played. There’s still a lot of drama to unfold in the league. In view of this, what do you think of these three teams? Can they set a record by going all the way this season without tasting defeat?
If no, which of these three teams do you think will be the first to taste defeat this season? Join the conversation by leaving us your comments and sharing your thoughts with us.
