The turnout of events at the 2018 FIFA World Cup has been nothing short of surprising.
In the 60 games played so far, only one game has ended in a drab draw. The remaining 59 has been filled with drama: late goals, games being dragged into extra time and penalties, and goalies winning Man-of-the-Match awards.
Of the 32 teams that started the journey, only four remain (Belgium, France, Croatia, and England) as the tournament comes to an end. Only four games remain to be played in the tournament, one being the first semi-final between France and Belgium.
For those looking to make some extra cash from this game, here are some stats to look out for:
The French national team has found the back of the net in four of their last five games in this World Cup tournament. Three out of those four times, they scored more than one goal. And in those five games, they only conceded in two (one against Australia and three against Argentina).
The Belgian side has been the most prolific side in the competition this year. They’ve managed to score 14 goals in the five games played – an average of almost 2,5 goals scored per game. Four out of the five games they’ve played so far have all ended with over 2,5 goals.
The players to watch out for
Romelu Lukaku has scored almost a third of all the goals that Belgium has scored in this World Cup campaign (4 goals). As deadly as he has been for Roberto Martinez’s side, he’s not the only player in the side that can wreck havoc. There’s a certain Eden Hazard who has scored two goals and made two assists.
For Didier Deschamps’ squad, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have both stolen the show with both their performances and, of course, their goals (both players have scored three goals each; their six goals making up two-thirds of the total goals that France has scored in the mundial).
From the 1986 World Cup till date, both sides have clashed six times. In those six meetings, France won twice, Belgium won twice and two of those games ended in goalless draws.
Three of those six games ended with over 2,5 goals with the other half ending with under 2,5 goals.
In this World Cup, Belgium has won all of their games, unlike France that had one of their games end in a draw.
