We have gradually reached the business end of the 2017 edition of the French Open. With top names like Tomáš Berdych, Juan Martin del Potro, Gaël Monfils, Agnieszka Radwańska, Venus Williams and Garbiñe Muguruza all out of the tournament, the stage is now set for the run up towards the second Grand Slam title of the year.
While the women’s category may have missed names like Serena Williams, Timea Bacsinszky and Jelena Ostapenko have used the opportunity shine like a million stars while knocking out names that ranked well ahead of them in the world rankings.
In the men’s category, Roger Federer has been the most notable absence from the competition. Although he’d usually be battling it out with names like Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, the king of clay, the legend has decided to sit this one out.
The competition has reached the quarter-final stage in both the men’s and women’s category. It’s crunch time in France. Who will conquer the clay and claim another (or their first) Grand slam title?
Some games that were supposed to be played yesterday were forced to be rescheduled for today no thanks to the weather. That means we have a packed line-up of games today.
Pablo Carreño Busta will be taking on Rafael Nadal while Dominic Thiem is up against Novak Djokovic in the men’s category. In the other quarter final match ups, Stan Wawrinka faces Marin Čilić and Andy Murray battles it out with Kei Nishikori.
As for the women, it’s E. Svitolina vs S. Halep and C. Garcia vs K. Plíšková while J. Ostapenko and T. Bacsinszky face each other on Wednesday.
