Goal Fest in England and Other Betting Lessons from the Weekend

August 06, 2018 2 Comments

The first weekend of the month of August somewhat marked the beginning of the football season in Europe.

There was the Community Shield, the French Super Cup, action in the English Championship and also in the Scottish Premiership. Although there was no action from the top five European leagues, this weekend was the perfect appetizer for the weekends to come this month.

The weekend brought us fun and also taught us a few things about what to expect in the coming weekends this month – and ultimately this year.

Here are some of the things we learnt (you should take note of them too):

  1. Manchester City scoring spree to continue

In the 2017/2018 Premier League season, Manchester City scored 106 goals – an average of over 2,5 goals per game. It’s the only way they could have become The Centurions.

Going into the new season Pep Guardiola’s side are favorites to retain the PL title. And with the Community Shield win over Chelsea during the weekend, they again showed their strength: getting the goals when it matters.

They will now have their sights set on Arsenal who they face in their first fixture of the 2018/2019 campaign.

  1. Championship drama

This past weekend marked the beginning of a new season in the Championship. With new managers like Marcelo Bielsa and Frank Lampard making their debut, the spotlight was on the league to see how it’d fare.

And what a start we had to the ’18/19 campaign!

Of the 11 games that were played on GameDay 1, 10 of them ended with both teams scoring. So far, only Queens Park Rangers have yet to score a goal in this campaign. Brentford’s game against Rotherham was the game with the highest number of goals: six – five of which were scored by Brentford.

Stoke City started life in the Championship with a 3-1 loss to Leeds.
Up next for them is the game against Brentford.

  1. The benefits of in-play betting

Of the over 500 games that were played during the weekend, there were some that featured interesting results and finished in grand style.

PSG showed no mercy to Monaco on their way to a 4-0 win in the French Super Cup.

But that game wasn’t as dramatic as one in Belgium: Anderletch vs. Oostende. Seven goals were scored in this Belgium Jupiler League game. But that’s not the funny part.

The funny part is that all seven goals were scored in the second half of the game, with the last four goals of the game coming in the last 10 minutes of the game. Phew!

Imagine what the live odds for Over 2,5 goals would have been at the end of the first half? Imagine what the odds for Over 3,5 goals would have been after 80 minutes of play? Massive, right?

Let’s just say this is another massive reason for you to try out in-play betting today. You never know what you might find.
