The clay court season continues in the world of tennis with the Madrid Open. With Roland Garros just some days away, tennis players will use this tournament to warm and get momentum for the Grand Slam which starts later this month.
Unlike the Barcelona Open, this one has both the ATP category (Madrid Masters) and the WTA category (Madrid WTA).
Madrid Masters
This is the tournament for those tennis players ranking on the ATP World Rankings. Even though the tournament just kicked off this past Sunday, there have already been a lot of big name exits.
On Sunday, Richard Gasquet ousted Thomas Berdych in the 1st Round (6-4, 6-2). Novak Djokovic, who is making a return to tennis after a long while, used his first game to defeat Japanese super-star, Kei Nishikori (5-7, 4-6).
Milos Raonic and Gael Monfils are just some of the other names who crossed their first round hurdles and will continue in the tournament.
In the past 15 meetings between both players, Nadal has won 13 of them.

Madrid WTA
Tennis matches are also being played in the Women’s Tennis Association category of the competition. Although there’s still no sign of Serena Williams in this one, just like in the ATP, the stars have also come out to play in this one.
From Maria Sharapova to Simona Halep (world No. 1), Caroline Wozniacki, Sloane Stephens, Garbine Muguruza and others, the WTA category is in full swing.
There have also been big name casualties in the WTA too, with Madison Keys (defeated by S. SorribesTormo), Victoria Azarenka (defeated by K. Pliskova in 3 sets 2-6, 6-1, 5-7) and Samantha Stosur (defeated by Sloane Stephens) all out of the competition.
The last two times both tennis players faced each other, Sloane defeated her counterpart both times.
Will the proverbial thunder strike three times or will Pliskova get her own pound of flesh?
