Manchester Derby: Who Will Rule Manchester?

December 06, 2019 Leave a Comment

As mentioned in one of our blog posts this week, this month will be a month featuring a number of derby games, especially in the Premier League.

Just after the Merseyside derby, fans will witness another edition of the Manchester derby this weekend – the first installment of the season. Set to be played inside the Etihad Stadium, it’s arguably the biggest game of the weekend, one every fan is looking forward to.

There may not be a title race on the line between these two yet. However, the Manchester derby is usually a fight for not just three points but supremacy and bragging rights in a city of football.

Manchester City have scored the first goal in four of the last five Manchester derby games.

Manchester City

It has not been the best season for Pep Guardiola’s side. They’ve lost three of the 15 PL games played this season. And that’s a lot of concern for the hosts as they look to keep up the pressure on Liverpool in their title chase.

It’s been over a year since Manchester City suffered defeat at the hands of their cross-town rivals. They will be looking to continue that run and compliment their win against Burnley.

The last two derby games played at the Etihad Stadium produced over 3,5 goals.

Manchester City have scored an average of three goals in their last five home games in the Premier League. Being the side with the most goals scored in the league so far, they go into this game as favorites to win it. However, a derby game is not usually as straightforward as other games.

Manchester United

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last four games. They won two of those games, with the other two ending in draws that produced over 3,5 goals. No doubt, they will be looking to continue their incredible scoring form at the Etihad this season.

Man. Utd have scored at least two goals in their last four PL games.

Both sides have one thing in common: the inability to keep a clean sheet. In a combined last 13 games, both sides scored, but also failed to keep a clean sheet. In a combined last 16 games, 14 have witnessed over 2,5 goals.

Although missing Pogba, United can rely on the likes of Rashford and Martial to do the needful on enemy territory and silence their noisy neighbors.

We’re all set for a Premier League classic that is set to produce a large number of goals. Who are you rooting for this game? Share your comments with us in the comments section below.

PS: This weekend will witness the heavyweight fight between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua. The Mexican and British boxers will go head-to-head in Saudi Arabia, with four belts on the line.
