In America, football is no longer about 90 minutes on the pitch. The regular season of the Major League Soccer campaign is over. And now, teams fight for a chance to be crowned as the league’s best in the post-season of the league.
So far, 10 playoff games have been played. And it’s fair to say these 10 games can reveal a lot about what the MLS Playoffs has been like, the in-form teams, and the trends that reveal the best-betting markets for you to make money from.
If you’re looking to make some extra cash from the MLS before it ends on the 14th of December, here are some betting markets to consider:
-
Goals
Only four of the teams that have played in the MLS Playoffs so far failed to score a goal.
Sporting Kansas, Nashville SC, Colombus Crew, and Minnesota United were the biggest scorers of the round. And all have progressed to the next stage of the playoffs, set to be played after Thanksgiving. Add Seattle Sounders to the list of teams that scored three.

Only one game finished without a goal in normal time, with some featuring as many as five to six goals.
-
Home Advantage
Fans had to wait until the seventh game of the MLS Playoffs to witness a surprise result from an away team, Dallas.
Before that game, six games had been played. And all six saw the home teams qualify for the next stage of the playoffs. Orlando City and Sporting Kansas needed penalties, even as the home side, but they scaled through.

-
Full-Time Draws
The MLS Playoffs games are just one-legged. With no reverse fixtures, games have to produce winners, whether during extra-time or via penalties.
In the 10 games played so far, four of them have ended dragged into extra time.

FC Dallas needed penalties to overcome Portland Timbers. The game between Toronto and Nashville SC could not end in normal time as both sides failed to find the back of the net.
As the competition gets stiffer and with progression in the tournament at stake, sides may approach games cautiously. And that may lead to teams being inseparable after 90 minutes of normal play.
The stakes couldn’t have been higher than they are now. Sides head into the rest of the MLS Playoffs, knowing that any slip-ups will be severely punished. It’s time for teams to go big… or go home.
