It’s been an eventful year in the world of football. From expensive summer signings, to Germany’s Team B winning the Confederations Cup, 2017 has been a year to remember for all lovers of the sports.
As we countdown the remaining days of the year, we’ve taken the time to reflect on the players that had an exceptional year; the ones that shined like a million stars during the calendar year.
To spice things up, we have selected these players in such a way that they make up a team, with each player being picked from each position. Ready for our list? Here we go!
Goalkeeper: David de Gea
David de Gea this year, showed the world time and time again what jewel he is to the Manchester United squad. Arguably the best goalkeeper in Europe at the moment, he has showed up countless times for Man. Utd this season. Most famous is his performance against Arsenal.

Defenders: Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Sergio Ramos
Bonucci and Chiellini formed a partnership that helped Juventus reach the final of this year’s UEFA Champions League. Although they were later undone by a couple of Ronaldo goals, theirs was a partnership that could have won more Serie A titles and maybe some more UCL finals. That was until Bonucci left for AC Milan.
Arguably the most ferocious defender currently playing at the moment, it’s hard to overlook Sergio Ramos, the captain of a side that won four titles this year: the UCL title, UEFA Super Cup, La Liga and the FIFA World Club Cup. Take a bow, Ramos.
Midfielders: Casemiro, Luka Modric, Kevin de Bruyne, N’golo Kante
Of all these four midfielders, only Kevin de Bruyne failed to win anything this year as Manchester City and Pep Guardiola endured a trophy-less season.
For Luka Modric and Casemiro, it was winners’ medal-laden year as they helped Real Madrid conquer Europe and then the world while also dominating Spain. Both players featured in almost every game for Real Madrid this year and this goes to show how important they were to Zinedane Zidane.
N’golo Kante was the pivot that kept Antonio Conte’s blue puppet running in the PL last season. He was so good that most folks concluded that his sale to Chelsea by Leicester was the club selling the Premier League title to the Roma Abrahmovic-owned football club.
Can the Blues catch the Red Devils before the end of the year with a couple of wins?
