Game 5: Winner Takes All or the Cavs Continue Their Comeback?

NBA finals 2017 game 5

Game 4 saw the Cleveland Cavaliers put up an amazing performance to bring to an abrupt end, Golden State Warriors’ quest for playoff perfection. Kyrie Irving’s 40p, the 24 3s made, and that blockbuster of a first half was a life saver for the Cavs; a life saver that came timely.

They made the most of the home crowd, Lebron James’ teamwork, and the early turnovers by GSW to create a healthy lead. Although Kevin Durant continued his amazing NBA Finals performance by getting 35p, it seemed like a night made for the Cavs.

The scores now stand at 3-1. No flawless postseason run for Steve Kerr’s men. But, they will be bothered about something else: de javu. Around this time last year, this was the exact same scoreline.

Guess what?

The Cavs went on to win the NBA Championship that year. So, going into Game 5, you can at least imagine what could be running through the heads of players in both camps.

204 total match points in Game 1. 245 in Game 2. Game 4 recorded 253 total match points.

GSW will be playing Game 5 in front of their home fans. They will be thinking, “A win is all we need to win this championship. Just one more win.”

On the other side, the Cavs will be looking to build upon the momentum they created in Game 4. In a way, they can already smell blood. The margin seems large but, they will be saying to themselves, “We’ve been here before… and in the end, we were crowned champions.”

All of this adds up to make Game 5 a “can’t miss” already. The Warriors will try to be as fluid as possible, with Klay, Durant, Steph and co. all trying to create space for more of those treys they like to take.

As has always been, Lebron will have his work cut out for him: keep Durant at bay and carry the team on his shoulders, a responsibility that has been jointly borne by Kyrie “The Scoring Machine” Irving.

The stage is set. Swords are at the ready. Will it be “winner takes all” or will the “comeback” continue?
