From no-look assists, to buzzer beaters, slam dunks and dribbles, the 2017 NBA Finals did not disappoint one bit. There was always something to talk about after every game.
Why not? That’s what you get when Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers go head to head in the finals, for the third time in a row.
The Warriors came out of this one conquerors, with Kevin Durant named as the NBA Finals MVP. From Game 1 to Game 5, a whole lot happened. And while we’ll be discussing the moments that made us go, “Wow!”, we’d like to know: What were your own wow moments? Leave us a comment after reading ours and let’s continue the conversation.
That being said, let’s share with you our own “wow” moments from the 2017 NBA Finals.
- The Unforgettable Half
This one was in Game 4. GSW had won the first three games. They needed just one more win to seal the deal. But they were up against a Cavaliers side that hadn’t given up on the title at the time. And boy did the Cavs start a (shortlived) comeback!
It was a half to remember. The Cavs took an early lead, increased it steadily and never looked back. The Warriors were rattled and just couldn’t help but watch as the Cavs racked up a record 86 points in the first half alone!
By the end of the half, the score board read 86-64; the highest ever scoring half in a NBA Championship game. And it will take a while before we see anything like it again.
- Game What? Game 4!
New record for points in a half (86). New record for threes made in a half (13). The highest ever scoring half (154). The game with the highest match points in the finals this year (253). Most 3-point shots made in a finals games (24). James, Irving and Kevin Love combining for 94p.
Game 4 was arguably the most exciting of the 2017 NBA Playoffs Finals.
- The Names That Created The “Wow” Moments
From start to finish, certain names remained on the lips of basketball fans the world over. These names remained in the spotlight with their dribbles, slams that left mouths ajar, sleek dribbles and jump shots.
For the Cavs, it was mostly all about Lebron James and Kyrie Irving. While Irving – one of the best finishers in the NBA – was dancing his way past the Warriors to the bucket, King James was busy moving up every available NBA Finals record list.
Guess who averaged a triple double in every game of the finals and was confident enough to make a ridiculous self alley-oop?
For GSW, it was a standout out, MVP performance from Kevin Durant, who averaged 30+ points in every game of the final and whose shot from down town was good enough to put GSW 3-0 up – remember that shot?
Then there was Steph Curry who took Lebron to the cleaners in their mini one-on-one in Game 2 and was as sleek as has always been.
There you have it. Our most wow mome… Oh wait! Almost forgot…
There was that wow moment that happened inside the press conference room. A reporter, after Game 1, kind of accused Durant for stealing a look at Rihanna after making a shot, a move he claimed sent social media agog. While KD talked it off, the look on Steph Curry’s face was too wow to forget.

My whole wow moment was at Game 3, That shot kevin Durant took to take back the lead from cavs; moment after Steph currys’ 3 three points shot…..I just knew Warriors would be talking that game.
Yes Wales, we remember that Kevin Durant shot too. It was widely regarded as one of the most important shots of the NBA Finals.
