In Europe, the annual club football competition, UEFA Champions League, is very much in its latter stages.
The competition has gotten into the knockout stages with surprise results everywhere. Comebacks have been the order of the day, with sides like Manchester United and FC Porto scaling through to the next round.
By June, the final of the UCL and the Europa League will have been played. But that won’t mean inter-club football will come to an end. Just as this prestigious tournament comes to an end in Europe, the Copa Libertadores will already be in full flight in South America.
The international club football has been on since 1960. It may not be as popular as the Champions League. However, it is to South America what the UCL is to Europe. Equally prestigious, it features some of the best football-playing sides on the continent of South America.
While UCL is in full flight, a new Copa Libertadores season has just kicked off in the Americas. This can be the most difficult time to make some cash from any football competition. It gets difficult when you consider that most of the football leagues on the continent are just resuming.
However, the first round of games is being played this week. May not be much but there’s still a lot these results can tell us about this new season and of course, which betting option is best.

So, what’s the best betting option?
Back the Argentine Clubs
This season of the competition is 59th one.
The competition which has seen the best of the best, in one of the best football-playing continents, go head-to-head, season after season, has produced more title winners from Argentina than from any other country.
The current title holders, River Plate, are from Argentina. The side that has won the competition the most times, Independiente (has seven titles to their name) is also from Argentina. The last final – which featured one of the fiercest derbies in the world – was one between two Argentine football clubs.
What’s more, of the 59 seasons played so far, Argentine clubs have accumulated the most victories, with 25 wins.
There’s River Plate, Rosario Central, Boca Juniors, Godoy Cruz, San Lorenzo and Huracan.

Back the Away Teams
This new season is already 13 games old.
As of the time of writing, three more games remain to be played in the first round. Of these 13 games, five ended in draws. The home advantage may be well alive in other competitions. But so far so good, that advantage has not been evident in South America.
Of the eight remaining games, five were won by the away sides. Talk about a trend that you can as well look out for as the new season progresses.
