A New Premier League and Bundesliga Season – and Our Expectations

new premier league and bundesliga season

In the coming weekends of this month of August, a new Premier League season, as well as a new Bundesliga campaign will kick off. While one is largely dominated by one club, the other has 3-4 title contenders – and that’s without adding Arsenal and Liverpool to the list.

In England last season, Antonio Conte blew the other teams away with the set-up of his Chelsea team. Yes, there was the argument that his team rarely had much to do unlike the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, among others.

Maybe the absence of a tight schedule helped them on their way to the title. But players like Kante, Hazard, Pedro, Moses and Costa pulled their weight too in ensuring that Conte pipped other managers to the league title in his first year as a manager in England.

It was sort of the same in Germany…

Except for RB Leipzig that came close to giving the Bavarians a run for their money last term, the Bundesliga title seemed signed, sealed and delivered for Carlo Ancelotti and his men the moment the second half of the campaign resumed.

In a league that has been described as a “one-horse race,” the league leader finished a whooping 15 points above the second-placed RB Leipzig, with Borussia Dortmund coming in third place.

Looking into the NairaBET crystal ball, these are some of the things we expect to happen in both leagues this season:

  1. Another title win for Bayern Munich?

It’s more than likely that the monopoly of the German giants over the league will continue this new season. Apart from parting ways with Douglas Costa while signing James Rodriguez, there hasn’t been any major paradigm shift in the team – we almost forgot that Xabi Alonso and Phillipp Lahm recently retired.

With the Bundesliga set to return in the coming weeks, how do you think MatchDay 1 will play out?

But with youngsters like Joshua Kimmich, midfield powerhouses like Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara still in the squad, not to mention the usual suspects up front, it’s hard to imagine any other club winning the Bundesliga this upcoming season. But football is still crazy, right?

  1. The race for Top 4, not the title

Let’s pretend to look past the Premier League title and which club will be trying to snatch it away from the hands of Roman’s Blues. In the PL this season – just like in the last, there will be more focus on the top four space and the teams that will either occupy them permanently or visit every once in a while. Lol.

Chelsea may be letting Diego Costa go, but Morata has been signed. Lukaku is now a Red Devil. Pep Guardiola has waved his magic wand and transformed his team to a young one. There’s also the speedy Liverpool and the Arsenal, not forgetting Tottenham.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham all feature in the first MatchDay of the new PL season. What’s your prediction for these teams?
Will they all see a win? Will all the games see over 2.5 goals?

  1. Expect the same names to compete for the Golden Boot

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (31) and Harry Kane (29) finished top of the goalscorers chart in their respective leagues last term. Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero were some of the names that scored 20 plus goals while Robert Lewandowski, Anthony Modeste and Timo Werner also featured near the top of the league scorers’ chart.

In this new campaign, you can expect to see these same names feature on the list, whether it’s German or English.

Of course another expectation of ours it that it will be an exciting season of football when these two seasons resume action this month. Excited too? We guessed so. Now that we’ve shared our expectations with you, kindly share yours with us. What are you expecting to see in both leagues this new season? Share your thoughts with us by leaving us a comment.

Cheers to the new football season ahead!
