PL Gameweek 5 Review

As a new Champions League season resumes, it’s the perfect time to reflect on events from Round 5 of the Premier League.

Only one game ended without goals.

From the Chelsea game against Wolves, to Arsenal’s capitulation against Watford, it was a weekend of goals. The marathon race to the PP title is in full swing and the table is gradually taking shape.

Liverpool has taken an early lead on the standings. With Manchester City’s slip up, the Reds are now five points clear at the top. It’s still too early to matter, considering how Liverpool threw away a massive lead last season.

However, the Reds have taken giant strides in this marathon race.

Liverpool travel to the Stamford Bridge this weekend to take on Chelsea in Round 6.
Frank Lampard is yet to win a home game as Chelsea manager.

The current champions are struggling in second place. Haunted by a series of bad decisions made during the transfer window, they lost to Norwich, a team that just gained promotion to the league. With John Stones out injured, Pep Guardiola’s side will have to dig in deep to keep the pressure on Liverpool.

Tottenham and Chelsea, both with 11 goals, are the joint third-highest goal-scoring teams in the league so far.

Spurs scored four first-half goals against Crystal Palace while Tammy Abraham’s hattrick helped Chelsea to yet another PL away win.

Both sides are considered to be contenders for a top-four finish this season.

Other contenders include Manchester United and Arsenal.

Despite key players suffering injuries, Man. Utd still managed a win over Leicester. It wasn’t the same story for Arsenal, a side which, despite having a stronger squad, conceded two late goals against Watford.

It’s been a month now since Arsenal faithfuls celebrated Premier League win.

At the bottom of the table, Wolves and Watford are yet to win a game in this new season.

Watford have had to ring in a change of managers. For Wolves, it seems last season’s success came with too much responsibility.

Playing in the Europa League may just cost Nuno Santos’ side a place in the Premier League. The revelation of the season so far has to be Norwich. Teemu Pukki is the third-highest scorer in the league this season. Emiliano Buendía is the third-highest assist creator so far this season.

They’re doing just enough to secure a Premier League position for next season.

It’s still a very young season with plenty to look forward to. Which team(s) are you rooting for this season? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.
