After PL Matchday 2: 4 Things We Learnt

August 21, 2018 Leave a Comment

This past weekend, the Premier League action continued from where it stopped.

After the 10 games played on MatchDay 2, the league table now has a new leader, only one game ended in a goalless draw and there were also a number of new things to be learnt about the most-watched football league in the world including:

  1. The champions are not slowing down

In the build-up to the game against Huddersfield, news of Kevin de Bruyne’s injury and how it would affect City was the order of the day. It remained to be seen whether the absence of the Belgian would affect the Citizens in any way.

With a Sergio Aguero hattrick and a 6-1 defeat of Huddersfield, Pep’s men again proved that City is not built around one player. They registered 14 shot on target in the game, more than they managed in any Premier League game last season. Talk about not slowing down!

Meanwhile, across town in Manchester…

  1. The Red Devils have slowed down

The AmEx Stadium has not particularly been a great hunting ground for the Red Devils. Last season’s visit to the venue ended in a defeat. And this past weekend, the story remained the same, just that this time, the loss came in an embarrassing fashion.

Manchester United’s defense looked in shambles. While Knockaert was busy running riot, Pogba was too busy misplacing his passes and gifting ball possession away. Up front, Martial’s body language was completely off.

United have to do better when they face Tottenham in their next game.
Which of the two teams do you think will score first in the Sunday PL game?
Back yourself and your predictions and win big.
  1. Chelsea and Tottenham fans have plenty to be optimistic for…

As we continue into the new season, Chelsea fans can as well expect plenty more from where the performance against Arsenal came from. Sarri’s teams are notoriously known for playing quick football and scoring a handful of goals too. 6 goals in two matches is definitely not a bad start.

Tottenham’s squad is the only one in the PL without a new player in it. But that has not stopped them from getting two wins in two matches and scoring 5 goals in the process. Although they’ve conceded a goal in each of those games, Harry Kane starting his goal scoring in August is a very positive sign of things to come.

  1. Arsenal, Fulham, West Ham and Huddersfield all have something in common

All those four teams are the only teams yet to get even a point in the campaign so far. For some of those teams (e.g., Arsenal, Huddersfield), it’s been a pretty tough start. The same cannot be said for the other teams.

All four teams will be in action this coming weekend. Do you think any of these teams will get a win?
