Few weeks ago, the fixtures list for the new Premier League season was released. Even though the return of the league was still months away then, it got fans sizing up the 2017/2018 campaign.
With exactly 40 days to go to the start of the new Premier League season, the anticipation is steadily rising. Fresh off watching Germany conquer the world at the FIFA Confederations Cup, football fans can’t wait for August 12.
While we are all waiting for the commencement of a season that will feature clubs like Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield, they’re stuck with pre-season friendlies, transfer news and rumors.
Speaking of players making moves, the market has not exactly gone into full swing yet. It’s still early days in July and, so far, Everton have been the most active PL side. That tells a lot. But with time, you can expect other clubs to join in on the action.
Of course the rumors are never ending and will most likely continue till the last day. What the fans can console themselves with is seeing their favorite clubs play in different pre-season tours and friendlies.
It’s the perfect appetizer for 10 months of back-to-back action – except for when the international breaks come around.
As with the start of all football seasons, there are speculations and predictions of the things to come. This season will see Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool – if they qualify – represent England in the UEFA Champions League.
Will the next winner of the PL title be one of these or will it be a club not having “that much” on their plate? Highest goalscorer? Top four finishers?
Some may say we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves with questions like these. But, in the end, these are questions that are lurking in the corner, waiting for each passing Match Day in this new Premier League season to slowly reveal the answers.
The countdown continues. 40 days to go. We will still see players move in opposite directions. Transfer records will be smashed and even some pre-season friendlies may end up being cancelled – remember the Manchester derby that was cancelled in China?
In the end, it will all add up to make the new season even more exciting. We know you can’t wait. We can’t too.
P.S: Since the summer transfer market is what’s currently making waves, which player would you like to see your favorite club sign before the window slams shut? Leave us a comment and let’s know what you think?
