It’s been a season of Champions League football in some continents across the globe.
If you think the phrase is just for Europe’s premier club competition, think again. In the last few days, continental club action has seen clubs, from different countries, clash in their association’s Champions League games. And it has not been different in Africa.
While it’s a new season in the UEFA Champions League, the curtain is being drawn on what has been a long season in the CAF Champions League.
Only four teams remain as the CAF Champions League season looks to produce a new champion of club football in the continent. At the semi-final stages, all is now set for the battle for a chance to appear in the final of the competition.
Although Mamelodi Sundowns won the competition in 2016, this edition of the tournament has seen the dominance of the North African sides.
Seven months after the quarter-final fixtures were played, two Moroccan and two Egyptian sides are left remaining in the tournament.

Last week, the first leg of their semi-final games was played. And the Egyptians, although playing away from home, secured wins. Up against Wydad Athletic, Al Ahly scored two unreplied away goals to take an advantage into the second leg of their game. In the other semi-final CAF Champions League game, Zamalek got the better of Raja Club Athletic by a lone goal.

For the Moroccan sides, they head into the second leg games with a deficit that must be overturned if they are to play in the final. For Wydad, trips to Egypt to ace Al Ahly have always been Herculean.
For instance, they have never defeated the Egyptian side away from home before, despite making three attempts. In the last five games between these two sides, Wydad has only managed two wins; wins that came in front of their home crowd.
Will both sides score in this game?

The other CAF Champions League fixture – between Zamalek and Raja Club – hangs in the balance as eight of Raja Club’s players have tested positive for COVID-19. With the final of the competition set to take place in Egypt, there’s extra motivation for Zamalek to quickly get this one over with, hold on to their lead, and make an appearance in the final.
However, they may have to wait a while for the affected players to make a recovery. But eventually, the games must go on and, more importantly, produce two winners who will square off in the final. Which of these four sides will make it to the final?
