This month of August will see football action resume in the top five football leagues in Europe. And when September follows, a new Champions League and Europa League season will begin, featuring games from the 2018/2019 season.
The qualifiers for both competitions are well underway, with clubs struggling to feature in this season’s edition of the competition.
Two clubs that have automatically qualified for next UCL season are Real Madrid (by winning the Champions League) and Atletico Madrid (by winning the Europa League). These two winners will also be facing each other in the UEFA Super Cup set to take place this week.
Comparing Both Clubs
For Real Madrid,
It’s the first time in nine years that the squad will not have a certain Cristiano Ronaldo in its ranks. Yes, all players are replaceable and it will be fun to see how Lopetegui’s side will set up without the club’s highest-ever goal-scorer.
Real Madrid will be relying heavily on the likes of Gareth Bale to fill the vacuum left by Ronaldo. It’s also the perfect time for names like Asensio, and Lucas Vasquez to step up and help Real Madrid win yet another trophy in addition to the one they won last season.
For Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid
Kevin Gameiro may be off to another club this summer but they still have heavyweights like Diego Costa, World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann, the impressive Jan Oblak and their new boy, Thomas Lemar who joined them this summer.
For Atleti, it’s not so much about being defensive as it is about having deadly players going forward. And just like Real Madrid, they will be looking to come up with the goods in this game and go home with the trophy.
