After seeing how the semi-finals played out, fans the world over can’t wait for that statement to be complete. The world is now waiting to see who will win the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Two teams have already qualified for the final; Chile and Germany. While the final will be a repeat of the Group B clash that ended in a draw, let’s take a quick look at how things played out in the semi-finals before discussing the final.
The first semi-final had Portugal and Chile lock horns in a game that had end-to-end action. An open-ended game, chances fell frequently to both sides as the game was played at a frenetic pace.
The South Americans utilized their experience and attacked on the counter a lot. The Portuguese had their moments too, no thanks to dangerous crosses. In the end, both were separated by penalty shootout; one that saw a certain Claudio Bravo save 3 penalties.
In the other semi-final, Germany and Mexico put on an impressive display, with the Germans prevailing 4-1. Most said it was a young squad. How good the squad was, they forgot to mention. With a well-organized defense, a midfield that functions and a striker like Werner, they out-played the Mexicans.
Now the stage is set for the grand finale.
While it took one team penalties to scale the semi-finals hurdle, the other was already 2 goals up by the end of the first 10 minutes of their own semi-final game.
For the Chileans, pace and power has been their strong point. The Germans on the other hand boast a deadly forward line, a midfield that ticks, and tactical nous.
