One way or the other, the announcement of the fixtures schedule for the 2017/2018 Serie A season was delayed – by a week or so. It’s not clear why… and it doesn’t matter so much now.

The Italian Serie A has, like the other four leagues that make up Europe’s Top 5, finally released the fixtures list for the upcoming season which kicks off on the 19th of August and runs through till May 20th.

The Juventus domination was very well alive last season. Another league title win was almost inevitable. That trend seemed like it would continue into the new season.

But the summer moves have, in a way, put things in perspective (or so we think?)

AS Roma made some key signings so far this summer transfer window. AC Milan went on a shopping spree, signing up a sizeable amount of players – sizeable enough to make another team – thanks to some Chinese bucks.

May not be evidence enough to prove that the battle for the Serie A title will be a close call. But it gives a perfect picture of things to come; what you can expect from the 2017/2018 Serie A season.

With the fixtures released, what does MatchDay 1 look like?

  • Juventus Turin VS Cagliari Calcio
  • Hellas Verona VS SSC Napoli
  • US Sassuolo VS Genoa FC
  • Udinese Calcio VS AC Chievo Verona
  • Lazio Roma VS Spal 2013
  • Inter Milan VS ACF Fiorentina
  • Sampdoria Genoa VS Benevento Calcio
  • Bologna FC VS Turin FC
  • Atalanta Bergamasca VS AS Roma
  • FC Crotone VS AC Milan

With all eyes set on the new AC Milan and a name change for Juventus’ stadium, fans of Italian football may need some adjusting to do. While they must have settled in well, MatchDay 8 serves a monster round in Serie A.

It features the first Milan derby of the season, the Derby del Sole (between Roma and Napoli in Rome) and the game between Juventus and Roma. Just before that, AC Milan will square up against AS Roma on MatchDay 7.

On MatchDay 11, Juventus take on AC Milan while MatchDay 15 serves up a tasty clash between Napoli and Juventus.

Going further, Inter Milan will face Juventus on MatchDay 16 while AS Roma and Juventus will treat fans to some December delight when they clash on MatchDay 18.

The Serie A TIM title is up for grabs. And the race starts August. Which team do you think will take an early lead after MatchDay 1? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
