The big one is here – well it’s still a couple of days away. While all the pre-fight hype, buzz and glamour continues, sport fans all over the world can wait for Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to step into the same ring and give the world a show to remember…or a show to forget.
For some, (Manny Pacquiao to be specific) they’re probably wishing it turns out to be the former. No, they’re not even looking forward to the bout as they’ve predicted it could be very boring and can’t wait for their predictions to come true.
If you’re one of those wondering why this fight has been tagged the money fight, let’s quickly reveal to you, the numbers involved. The fight, which will be held at the 20,000-capacity T-Mobile Arena, is set to generate $600m in revenue.
Just in case you didn’t get the memo, that’s $600,000,000.00!!!
Let’s let that sink in for just a few seconds….
…
…
…OK.
While Floyd Mayweather is getting ready to make $100m after this fight, let’s talk about both contenders.
40-year old Mayweather is a boxing legend who has not been defeated in 49 bouts, 26 of those wins coming via knockouts. Widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever, Floyd is a boxer who sees his strong point as being able to evade the opposition.
With his movements in the ring, he knows how to move around the ring skillfully while making adjustments against opponents as quickly as possible. Even though he has 49 wins under his belt, he will be looking to go one better than former heavyweight great Rocky Marciano, who also retired with a perfect 49-0 career record.
28-year old McGregor is the current reigning champion in the UFC’s lightweight category and is the former featherweight champion. Popular for his knockout power and devastating kicks inside a MMA octagon, the Irishman will be looking to become the first person to beat Mayweather in his professional boxing career.

Las Vegas hasn’t stopped buzzing since the pair came into town a few days ago – Sin City is always buzzing, anyway. Fans have lined streets, while waiting for their sporting icons to stroll past and probably give them a high-five or an autograph. And the stars have been talking tough since the pre-fight tour that saw both fighters appear in four cities while promoting the fight.
Floyd Mayweather: “I don’t care if it’s a ring or it’s an octagon, I will kick ass. I don’t back down for anybody. You line them up and I will knock them down. On August 26, I’m gonna knock this b**** out too.
We talking about from the nineties to now, world champion 18 years, but it is no problem. I’m not the same fighter as I was years ago, but I got enough to beat you.
You will wave that white flag. You are going out on your face or your back. Which way do you want to go? All you need to do is show up and I will do the rest.
“God only made one thing perfect, and that is my boxing record.”
Conor McGregor: “You haven’t knocked anyone out in about 20 years. He’s in a track suit. He can’t even afford a suit anymore. His little legs, his little core, his little head, I am going to knock him out inside four rounds, mark my words
“I am a young, confident, happy man that has worked extremely hard for this. I am just up here embracing everything. No-one can do anything to me. I am just enjoying myself and having a good time.
“He will be unconscious in four rounds. He has never faced this. I don’t fear him. All these rules, all these restrictions, it doesn’t faze me; it amuses me. It is funny to me all these rules.”
Talk is over. It’s time for two legends from different worlds to clash inside the same ring.
