January is notorious for a lot of games in European football.
There are a handful of league games to be played.
There are cup games to be handled too.
With players having to play so many games in such a short period, the risk of fatigue is high.
Furthermore, too much fatigue could lead to injuries (long term or short) to important players. This alone could sabotage the season of any club.
And it’s one of the reasons why clubs are usually active during the January transfer window.
The other reason is to offload old cargo and bring in new players; a breath of fresh air.
Not all clubs can be like Tottenham Hotspur. Not all clubs can afford to not sign a player in the summer transfer window and invest money in stadium expansion rather than a new player in the winter transfer window.

The Chelsea Situation
Some football clubs like Chelsea needed to offload Cesc Fabregas.
The Spanish midfielder will now be joining AS Monaco in a bid to fight relegation. But this move is still being stalled by a lot of other factors. Instead of chasing another midfielder, Sarri is looking to solve Chelsea’s word up front.
Reports claim Chelsea are close to signing Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan with Alvaro Morata possibly returning to Spain. The Blues have also been reported to have turned down Bayern Munich three times on the Callum Hudson-Odoi transfer.
Other Transfers
It may be a January transfer season. But there are a number of players out there whose future remain uncertain. They’ve constantly appeared in the media and are being rumored to make one move or the other.
Some of them are:
- Tammy Abraham: Crystal Palace want to sign Tammy Abraham after the striker turned down the chance to join Wolves on loan. He is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea
- Kalidou Koulibaly: Manchester United is willing to break the bank to sign Koulibaly in the summer. The Napoli defender is one of United’s top targets and would likely cost in excess of the world record £75m fee for a defender
- Krzysztof Piatek: The Genoa striker is the second highest goalscorer in the Series A this season. The forward man has become a sensation that has caught the interest of many. But Genoa will not let go easily.
As football fans, we always dream of having a number of players feature for our favorite clubs. It’s the reason why we play Football Manager and have Fantasy League accounts.
