Last year’s UEFA Champions League finalists, PSG are on the brink of a semi-final exit. They’re 2-1 down going away to face Manchester City in the 2nd leg of the Champions League semi-final.
When PSG qualified for the Champions League semi-final, there were talks of them finally winning the big trophy. They’d just beaten Bayern Munich over 2 legs and were favourites going into the semis. Things started brightly for them after Marquinhos put them ahead against City but they’re now staring down at an exit. Manchester City’s impressive second half rally has seen Guardiola’s men take a 2-1 lead going into tonight’s game.
A combination of defensive errors, silly tackling and indiscipline has resulted to PSG’s chances hanging by a thread. They now need to score at least 2 goals against a City defence that does not concede goals easily. However, if any team is capable of a comeback, it is PSG. They have managed to defeat powerhouses such as Man. United, Barcelona & Bayern on their way to the semis. They boast of an incredible attack line of Mbappe, Neymar, Icardi and a fierce backline of Marquinhos and Kimpembe. They also have the tactical Mauricio Pochettino as manager.
PSG opponents are equally incredible. City’s quadruple quest is now impossible but they have a treble in sight and are well placed. If there’s a team to be feared of the remaining teams in the Champions League, it’s Manchester City. Guardiola’s team went on a 25 match winning run earlier this season and are currently on a 17 away match winning streak. The Champions League is the only trophy Guardiola is yet to win at City. The fact that City have never won the Champions League will also be a major motivational factor for them.
Can PSG do the unthinkable? Can they stage a comeback against almighty Manchester City or will City finish them off and reach their first ever Champions League final?
We think Manchester City will progress. PSG will be without the important Idrissa Gueye who was sent off last week. Kylian Mbappe is also not fully fit. City meanwhile have a fully fit squad and are at home.
