This week, we have witnessed the resumption of the UEFA Champions League. The mid-week evenings and nights are alive again. It feels good to hear the UCL anthem ring out from our T.V screens and mobile phones again.
16 teams remain in the running for the final that will be played in June. Four of the eight first leg games to be played in the Round of 16 has revealed quite a lot.
Real Madrid and PSG managed away wins while AS Roma and Tottenham made the most of playing in front of their home crowd. The remaining four first-leg games in this round will be played next week.
For those that have played and the teams yet to kick a ball, the question will be the same across board. June may be four months away. However, you can bet that most of these teams are already looking forward to how they will navigate their way to the final.
European club football is notorious for all the twists and turns it serves. You never know what you’ll get until the final whistle of the final is blown. The competition is stiff and it takes a lot of grit and some bit of luck to win the trophy.

According to the bookmakers, Manchester City remains favorites to win the UCL title. The second and third favorites are Barcelona and PSG respectively. The French outfit showed what stuff they’re made of as they defeated Man. Utd at Old Trafford.
Barcelona has Lionel Messi and Man. City has Pep Guardiola. But winning the UCL is beyond one man or even the whole team. Winning the UCL title involves being able to deal with the domestic pressure while putting on a good showing in Europe.
Look back on the past winners of the trophy. They have all been sides that did well enough and also rode their luck on their way to victory. It may be too early to talk about a final that is still four months away. However, it is the ultimate goal.
And since we’re in the knockout stages, talks of the final will continue to appear every now and then.
