UCL Returns

The two-month hiatus between the group stages and the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League seem to have lasted forever.

A lot has happened on the club football scene. But it rarely gets bigger than the UEFA Champions League. And it quickly gets exciting in the UCL whenever the knockout stage sets in.

For the remaining 16 teams still involved, it’s time to go big or go home. Teams have to bring on their best or risk getting eliminated at this stage.

The boys have been separated from the men. Now, the men will fight for who will be crowned the kings of football in Europe.

Two days after the love affair on February 14, eight teams will be involved in trying to get the better of one another.

There’ll be a reunion between Lionel Messi and Neymar when Barcelona face PSG in one of the clashes of the round.

These two sides are no strangers to each other, with the most famous meeting between both sides being Barcelona’s 6-1 comeback win at the Camp Nou.

At least four goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between these two sides.

When the game between Leipzig and Liverpool was scheduled, it was planned to take place in Germany.

However, the Germans have banned all entry into the countries for the main time. What that means for the Reds is that their game now has to be played at the Puskas Arena.

For both sides, this one will be played on neutral ground. On one hand, Leipzig will miss their home advantage – if there was any in the first place. But they can take advantage of Liverpool’s poor run of form.

Liverpool have lost five in their last seven – three on the bounce now. Will this be their fourth loss in a row?

Another German side that will be in action is Borussia Dortmund. But they will be away to Sevilla.

Julen Lopetegui’s men have been tenacious of recent. A win over Barcelona has made up their nine-game winning run. In their last two games against Dortmund in 2010, the Spanish side did not lose. They will be hoping to continue this unbeaten run. For the Germans, they have not lost in their last two games.

In the final game to be played this week, Cristiano Ronaldo will face his fellow Portuguese, in the form of FC Porto.

In 2017, both sides faced each other twice. And the Old Lady won, on both occasions. Both games also produced red cards.

When the next week comes, sides like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid will be in action. Which of these teams will win their games? Drop your comments below.
