UEFA U19 Championship So Far

Somewhere in Georgia, Europe’s finest, most talented youngsters are battling it out for glory in the UEFA U19 Championship.

Since Monday, teenagers from different parts of Europe have had swords drawn, battling things out on the field of play and jostling with one another for qualification.

After 2 rounds of group-stage football, it’s down to the final round this weekend; with the knockout stage looming, it’s now a matter of who wants it the most.

So far, so good, 17 goals have been scored in the first eight games of the competition. Not surprising as goals are usually synonymous to youth tournaments.

Having said that, it’s now down to who wants qualification the most in this final round.

In Group A, unbeaten Portugal takes on Sweden while Czech Republic and Georgia, the host nation, go head-to-head. With the Portuguese on 6 points, it’s a straight battle between Czech Republic and Georgia for qualification as both are on 3 points.

Czech Republic and Georgia both have 3 points. Both play against each other in the final round of group games.

It’s almost the same scenario in Group B. It’s an unbeaten England side vs. Germany while Netherlands takes on Bulgaria. The battle for qualification here is between the Netherlands and Germany.

Separated by a goal difference of +2 on the table, Netherlands and Germany battle it out for a knockout spot. The Germans, currently at a disadvantage with a goal difference of zero, will have to outscore an unbeaten England side to qualify.

It’s straight to the semi-finals from here as the excitement continues. As Europe’s finest teenagers take on each other this weekend with qualification at stake, the question remains: Who wants it more? We can only wait to find out.
