It’s about time for the last Grand Slam of the year, the U.S Open. For the next 2 weeks, starting Monday, the biggest names in the world of tennis will make their way into the Americas for a chance to either win a maiden Grand Slam title or add to the long list of accolades.
Whether it’s the Men’s Singles category or the Women’s Singles category, the fight for this year’s Grand Slam will be super tough.
In the Men’s category, only Andy Murray is the major name that will be missing from the action. One name to watch put for is Novak Djokovic.
The U.S Open may not be a familiar hunting ground for the Serbian who is currently ranked 6th in the ATP rankings. But this Djokovic, after his win at the Cincinnati Masters, has become rejuvenated and will be raring to go all the way this time around.
Roger Federer who was defeated in the Cincinnati Masters final, is a familiar name when it comes to the U.S Open. He has the most U.S Open title wins in the Open Era (5) and has the most consecutive titles also (5).

Another name to look out for in this competition is Rafa Nadal. The Spaniard, in the past 7 years, has won the title three times. In that period, only Novak Djokovic has come close, with two title wins. Of course he’s one of the favorites to win the title.
In the Women’s category, it’s a full house, with all the major names set to go head-to-head. One major name to look out for is Serena Williams. Mother duties has left the six-time U.S. Open champion struggling to peak in recent times.
But the U.S Open is home ground for one of the few mothers still playing active tennis in the WTA. And the American will be looking to win back a title she hasn’t won since 2014.

The WTA category, unlike the ATP, is random, sometimes too random to call. In the past 10 years, the Women’s Singles category has produced 7 different winners, the most recent one being Sloane Stephens.
The American tennis star has had a 2018 to remember. Although she’s yet to win any Grand Slam this year, she featured in the 2018 edition of the French Open where she lost to a certain Simona Halep.
Speaking of Simona Halep, she’s the No. 1 ranked female tennis player in the world. And going into this edition of the U.S Open, she will be looking to cement her place after the tournament.
